WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrading upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using the help of button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item upgrade has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a certain Item Level Upgrade level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will be less expensive, even when they are part of another set of gear.

Crests

The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade items process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
