Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems as well as an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service can provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial in your particular situation. This will happen during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your physician will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to start medication, we can help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks, and it involves gradually altering your child's medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to have to adjust up to three different medications before you can find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration adhd medication and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done by video conference using zoom. However, in some instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication, as well as any side effects that you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is essential that we assess any family history that might suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During the assessment, it is crucial that you are truthful and honest with your doctor in the sense that they will be using the information you provide to determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a vital part of the process, as failing to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.

If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD we'll schedule an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist who is specialized in this area. This can be scheduled within the first few days of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment immediately, or within two weeks if prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the possibilities available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, talk to your GP prior to booking your private adhd titration assessment. Certain providers have different policies on whether they require an GP letter. We also advise to check if your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want a private titration adhd diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a key part of their journey. It isn't always easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

This can reduce your wait time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will examine you and decide whether or not you're required to be adjusted on your medication. You'll have to fill out forms that differ by provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories going to childhood and adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are reasons that suggest you shouldn't take ADHD medications, if they have been prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, it is likely to be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you, taking into consideration any existing conditions you have. The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and quantity of medication that you are taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. You'll also have to attend a regular health check which can include blood pressure, pulse and weight readings as well as an annual check-up.

For some people, it may be that they are satisfied with their medication and don't need an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you're required to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private doctor that performed your initial evaluation.
