A quality robot vacuum cleaner can make a huge difference in the elimination of allergens such as dust and pet hair. Not all models are identical.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge is the newest model in Eufy's budget line robot vacuum cleaners. The G30 Edge is a glossy black vacuum cleaner, with blue and rose gold accents. It's like it's a smartphone. This model is easier to use than previous models and offers features like BoostIQ that automatically increases suction power to ensure better cleaning of all surfaces. It also employs intelligent navigation to prevent repeating the same area repeatedly, which is which is a common issue with bounce-navigation systems that are simpler.

It does a great job of removing pet hair and crumbs off hard floors, but lags behind the best models when it comes to collecting dust from carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the dust on hard floors, and 26 percent on carpet which is a bit disappointing.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map out your home using a digital map. This allows it to keep track of the rooms it's cleaned, and to avoid returning to them. This is a major problem for more basic robots who require the old-fashioned magnetic taps to define no-go zones.

The G30 Edge also has other features. It has a "Find My Robot" mode that blasts out loud music until it is found, and a directional keypad that allows you manually move the robot. It also has a built-in auto return function that will send it back to its charging base when the battery is empty, an important safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D shape is an extremely capable robot that comes with an impressive list of features that are smart. It can clean bare floors efficiently and climb up carpets with high piles with ease. The app also offers advanced features, such as boundary lines, remote control access while the robot is operating and a variety of other options.

This model is the latest in a long line of robots from Neato and is distinguished by its unique "D" shape when seen from above. This design comes with a variety of advantages that include an improved corner cleaning system and a larger dust bin than most other models. The D-shape design also allows the robot to access furniture better than those with a circular design.

The D-Shape will stop briefly before beginning a cleaning cycle to use spinning infrared to assess and scan the area. Then, it will work in a grid, gradually moving from one area to the next until the entire floor is covered. This method of cleaning is much more effective and thorough than the random approach used by some competitors.

The design of the D-Shape allows it to have a large 700ml dust bin, as opposed to 400-600ml for robots of the same price. The increased capacity means you'll have to empty the dust bin less often, saving you time and effort. The D-Shape also has a flat front that helps it get around obstacles such as chairs and tables. In our tests the D-Shape was stuck under a stool with four legs and an electrical cord that was not covered but it was able to break free each time.

3. Roomba I3+ EV

The Roomba i3+ EVO is a fantastic option for pet owners. It's great on hard floors, and does a good job of cleaning up debris like pet hair cereal, rice and other small particles. It isn't as good on carpets however, it is still superior than other robots in this price range. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also very efficient at transferring between floor types and doesn't get caught over transitions in the way older models do. Dual multi-surface brushes can flex and adapt to different flooring types. They also aren't able to tangle pet hair.

The i3+ EVO has a weaker obstacle-avoiding capability than the other robots that we tested. It frequently encountered objects such as handbags, pet toys and shoes before continuing its route. It also had issues with coarse kosher sea salt which it blew around instead of taking it up.

The i3+ EVO includes a number of features that make it worth the extra cost over other Roomba models, such as self-emptying bins and advanced control through the app. You can schedule cleanings and create custom routines. You can also create zones that block the robot from entering certain areas. Its intelligent scheduling can suggest additional cleaning during high allergy times in accordance with your routine. The navigational system is unreliable, however, and often cleans in irregular lines such as zigzags or diagonals instead of parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty, XL

This intelligent robot is able to map your home in detail and more accurately than you. It comes with two brushes that adapt to different types of floors and are able to avoid tangling. This makes it the perfect option for homes with pets. The app allows you to control the robot or use it with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The dock, named Omni, automates tasks such as cleaning and refilling the robot's water tank, emptying the debris bin and charging and drying the mop pads.

It's a great value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL is cheaper than many of the robots we've reviewed, yet it offers advanced features like mapping and an automatic vacuum for pet hair self-emptying trash bin which holds a decent amount of dust. We tested it in a house with a mix of unfinished carpet and low-pile flooring and found it to move and clean very well, even navigating corners. The vacuum does a great job of removing pet fur on carpeting. However it's not as much power as our top selections.

However, the Roborock S4 Max is better built, takes much less time to recharge than the Shark and offers a wider range of automated and scheduling options and support for no-go zones. Shark is still a good option if you're looking to buy something less expensive or prefer to control and monitor your system with your smartphone instead of using a remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and Wet

This robot is capable of both vacuuming and mopping. Its two-tank system can effectively vacuum or mop at the touch of a button. In our tests, it was able to effortlessly switch between surfaces and was great at picking up pet fur from carpets and hardwood floors. It also has an edge-sweeping tool that can remove hairs from walls and baseboards.

This robot is a great option if you're looking for an affordable model that comes with additional features. It maneuvered obstacles well in our tests and is controlled via an app or voice. It also supports scheduled cleaning and has a huge dust bin to capture mess before they get full. It can take it up to 166 minutes to finish its job however, it is more efficient than other robots we have test.

Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool ensure that it is able to get into areas that are difficult to reach, and Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to spots that are heavily soiled. Its battery lasts about 60 minutes and it has a self-emptying dustbin. The more expensive iRobot J7 comes with an advanced suite of features and performs better on all surfaces. It also feels better built, has a larger dustbin, charges faster, and can navigate obstacles such as electrical cords better.
