The Combo i5/i5+ also has the patented Dirt Detect technology which helps the robot focus more on areas that are dirty.

One of the best parts of this robot is its auto-emptying Clean Base, which can hold up to 60 days of debris and minimizes the need for manual maintenance. It also has a recharge-and-resume feature that will send the robot to its homebase for charging whenever its battery gets depleted. It then picks up right where it left off.

The i5+ robotic is great for most homes. However, it's not designed for carpeted or stairways. It has a limited capacity dust bin, which means it can't clean your entire house in the event of lots of debris or pets. Take a look at the i7 and the i9 models if you're looking for a Roomba with greater power to tackle tougher environments. These robots are able to mop wet floors and are better suited to stairs. The iRobot Combo i5/i5+, with its innovative design and cutting-edge technology is a great choice for homes who need both a vacuum cleaner and mop.

However, it was unable to overcome a 2 inch marble slab separating the living and kitchen. The edge cleaning capabilities were much better than the results we got from the budget robot vacuums with a strong grip on corners.

Once the i7+ reached its maximum capacity, it returns to its Clean Base and empties its contents. It then prepares for the next clean. You can add cleaning fluid by pressing a button on the opposite side of the robot. A small water tank or dustbin will then be clipped open.

The only issue is that the Clean Base takes up a large amount of space which makes it difficult to put the i7+ away in a closet if it's not being used. This is a common issue with robot cleaners. Most manufacturers have charging stations that are smaller. These stations are also usually able to fit under cabinets, making it easier to conceal your iRobot when not in use. iRobot has reached out to us following publication to clarify that the Combo i7+ is designed to be used only with the manufacturer-approved cleaning solution (sold separately). It should not be filled with water, which can damage the internal components and decrease the performance.
