How to Replace an audi new Key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out cost of audi key replacement sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are various pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. They're cheap and easy to find especially if they're a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It is a crucial part of your audi car key replacement's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the replacement audi a3 key 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find them in wrecking yards.woman-showing-the-car-keys-2022-12-16-22-09-32-utc-min-scaled.jpg
